Star Trek Actor Zachary Quinto Reveals He is Gay

I'm gay and happy: Star Trek actor Zachary Quinto came open about his sexuality in a recent interview.

Zachary Quinto, known for his popular role as Spock in the 2009 Star Trek movie, has revealed in an interview with NY magazine that he is gay. The actor, who decided to come out with his sexual orientation publicly, talked about his role in the stage production Angels in America as a man who abandons his boyfriend who is dying of AIDS.

“It was the most challenging and rewarding role. As a gay man, it made me feel like that is still so much work to be done and there’s still so many things that are to be addressed.”-Zachary Quinto said.

Referring to himself as a “left-leaning democrat,” in the October 2011 issue of NY magazine, the 34-year-old admitted that his decision to come out as was influenced by another gay teenager’s story. The Star Trek star explained that the boy’s story sincerely effected him.

“As a gay man, I look at that and say there’s a hopelessness that surrounds it. But as a human being, I look at it and say, ‘Why?”-Zachary Quinto revealed.

The actor previously refused to be drawn into discussing his sexuality with the magazine in an interview last year after playing a number of gay roles over his career, but it seems that when talking about the cause, he, like so many others, feel that something has to change.

Star Trek actor Zachary Quinto is currently in theaters in a small role in the comedy What’s Your Number? and will be seen later this month as a gay man in the FX series American Horror Story. His next film Margin Call, which he co-produced and in which he costars with Kevin Spacey, is set to be released in theaters on October 2nd.
