Rose McGowan Talks About How She Survived Living in a “Cult” as a Child

Rose McGowan star of “Conan the Barbarian 3D” and best known for her role in TV’s: “Charmed,” recently opened up and talked about her childhood in Italy’s Countryside, while both her parents were part of the Cult: “Children of God,” when she was only a child. The first nine years of her life were lived amongst the people in this cult: “Children of God.”

The Children of God sect is a group that extolls free love as they prepare you for the second coming of Jesus Christ. Rose McGowan recalls not belonging in such a place. Rose McGowan stated: “I’ve always been who I am, explaining that while she did believe in God, she wasn’t in accord with the hippie lifestyle, and certainly not with their aesthetic or the subservient role of females in the sect.” She did not aspire to be like the women in the sect that basically were there to serve men sexually at any given time.

This fact became even more apparent to her and then her father when they started advocating child-adult sexual relationships. Rose McGowan‘s father began to suspect that Rose might have been molested. She says her father was “strong enough to realize that the hippie love had gone South.”

Rose McGowan along with her father and her siblings fled the “Children of God” and came back into mainstream life in the United States. Rose McGowan admits that it was not easy assimilate. Rose McGowan says she and her brothers and sisters thought everyone was kind of boring.

Years later she returned to the small town in Italy that held many difficult memories with her ex-boyfriend Marilyn Manson. She is very thankful to her father who past away in 2008 but at the same time realizes that that whole, horrible experience made her who she is today.
